Our Plan

We’re a local coalition working to make early childhood care and education more accessible for local families

We’re proposing a region-wide investment, Parachute to Aspen, to make child care more affordable and easier to find

Voters will be asked to approve an Early Childhood Service District to support:

  • Tuition credits for families that reduce the cost of early care and education for their children, before they enter kindergarten
  • Provider grants that help create and grow more child care businesses and that recruit and retain more early childhood teachers

The Service District would be funded with a 0.25% sales tax increase – 25 pennies on a $100 purchase – that would generate about $10 million per year. Essential everyday items would be exempt from the tax, including groceries, medicine, diapers and feminine hygiene products.

By working together, across local town, county and school district boundaries, we can support working parents to choose the child care provider that works best for them – whether it is someplace closer to home or closer to work.

This plan has been developed by local families and educators, and is supported by a broad cross-section of our community leaders and business owners. Together, we understand that young kids must get the support they need to thrive while their working parents can better afford to stay in our community and raise them here.
